有机食品


有机食品指食品的原材料在栽种的过程中,未有使用化学合成的杀虫剂、化肥;在加工制作的过程中,也未有加入食品添加剂。此外,所饲养的牲口,也没有使用抗生素或生长调节剂(激素)。

农药

在一般农产品的栽种过程中,使用合成农药已经是非常普遍的做法。现时,在各种植物和各种各样的产品中,如蔬果,奶制品,农药残留对人体有影响已是众所周知的事实。这些抗生素,激素或杀虫剂经研究证实可导致畸形儿、神经损害及遗传基因突变,儿童从食物中接触到农药而致癌的几率比大人高四倍,

中国是全球化肥和农药投入量最高的国家,农业年历2006指出中国2005年的农药使用量达146吨,而化肥使用量为4766万吨 ,被严重污染的耕地有133万公顷

味精

味精的化学名称是谷氨酸纳,是一种可溶于水,会散发荤味,刺激味觉的化学物质。当使用过多味精,超过人体的代谢能力时,人便会感到身体不适,如心跳,气喘。这是因为味精中的主要成分麸酸纳, 当人体摄取过量时,会抑制脑神经的生理功能。 进食过多味精妨碍骨骼发育,限制人体对钙,镁铜等必须矿物质的吸收。

世界卫生组织限定成人每人每日对味精的摄入量为120毫克/公斤体重,即若50公斤重,每日最多可食用6克味精.

糖分

世界卫生组织建议,每人每天从食糖中摄入的卡路里不应超过220到330,即约11到16勺白沙糖,一罐可口可乐有143 卡路里,一杯卡布奇诺约62 卡路里(以全脂奶冲制,用荳奶则约47 卡路里)。

We are well aware of the importance of caring for your health, including your skin, your physique, and your body system. But how easy it is to forget the central role of diet. If you can, spare a few seconds and think about what you are actually eating, where the food comes from, and how it affects your body. The effects of food you eat last long after the taste has gone. What you eat stays in your body and results in different effects. The Green Room would like you be mindful of each bite of food you enjoy.

Organic foods

Organic foods are produced without use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste, or sewage sludge. Organic food is processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. Organic livestock is reared without the routine use of antibiotics and are free of artificial growth hormones.

Pesticide residues

The products from conventional agriculture, such as fruit, vegetable and milk can have pesticide residues which potentially pose a risk to health. Eating food with excessive pesticide residues may cause acute and/or chronic adverse health effects. Prolonged excessive intake of pesticide residues have been shown to cause damage to the nervous system, harm organs such as the liver and kidneys, and impede natural fetal development of animals.

On the other hand, organic farming emphasizes agricultural methods such as crop rotation to keep the soil healthy and maintain natural pest-control systems. It effectively provides people healthy and safe food.

MSG

MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) has been shown to cause lesions on the brain, especially in children. These lesions cause cognitive and emotional abnormalities. Studies show that rats fed MSG from birth could not escape mazes or discriminate between stimuli as well as non MSG fed rats. The implication for human children is that MSG could seriously affect cognitive skills and cause learning difficulties.

Scientists have shown that everyone reacts to MSG and it all depends on the dose of MSG given. People who do not suffer an immediate or acute reaction to the substance will, scientists believe, suffer brain cell damage which can lead to long-term health problems as detailed above.

Sugar intake

World Health Organisation suggested that the daily calorie intake from sugar should be limited within 220-330. It is equal to 11-16 teaspoons of white sugar. A can of Coca Cola has 143 calorie and a cup of cappuccino has about 62 (from whole milk) or 47 (from soy milk) calorie.
